Lipedema: Have You Stopped Shaving?

Are You One of THOSE Women? Those with lipedema who report less leg hair or NO LEG HAIR AT ALL!? They may shave much less often or barely even look at the razor in their bathroom. This may seem like one of the only positive side effects of living with lipedema but.... it could be a sign of some not so healthy things going on under your skin!

There are important considerations to make if your body isn't functioning the way it's intended, even if that makes life more convenient for you. There are several possible explanations when your body stops growing hair. Some of these may be:

  • problems with veins/arteries

  • nutritional deficiencies due to low caloric intake over years

  • reduced circulation and oxygenation in the legs

  • hair follicle health has decreased due to inflammation and pressure

As you can see, the potential reasons why you can toss that razor aside for days or weeks are concerning. So may women with lipedema report this issue that it's worth looking into, especially since we know lipedema leads us to eat less (often not enough, despite our size), and we know there is inflammation and reduced circulation and lymph flow plus increased pressure in areas affected by lipedema. Addressing fascia health to improve circulation and oxygenation as well as decrease adhesions and inflammation is a great beginning. Adding a nutrient dense food plan with plenty of options to get more of what your body needs is also important!

It's nice not to have one more thing to worry about when we have to do so much every day to take care of our health, but when something in our bodies stops working like it should, it's time to take notice and give it the support it needs!
