The Impact of Fascia Therapy on Lipedema

Let's start with the basics. Fascia is the connective tissue that surrounds and supports every muscle, organ, blood vessel, nerve, and lymphatic structure in your body. It creates a continuous web of support and communication throughout your body. When fascia becomes restricted, circulation, movement, and healing can be impaired. Healthy fascia equals better flow and a stronger you.

When fascia becomes restricted, it can contribute to reduced circulation, impaired lymph flow, increased inflammation, more pain and tenderness, reduced mobility, and poor breathing mechanics. Everyone has restricted fascia to some degree because of the effects of gravity, injury, surgery, trauma, and changes in posture. With lipedema we experience adhesions and tissue without optimal flow down to the cellular level.

Block Therapy uses diaphragmatic breathing, decompression, and alignment to restore space and improve whole-body function. First, we Create Space by decompressing fascial restrictions to release tension and open up space. Next, we Inflate Space by using diaphragmatic breathing to increase oxygenation, improve circulation, and support lymph flow. Finally, we Maintain Space by improving alignment and movement patterns to keep space open and support lasting change. As we go through this process, changes begin to happen in our bodies that we can both see and feel.

Clients with lipedema have reported experiencing less pain and tension, improved mobility, easier breathing, reduced heaviness, better posture, greater body awareness, increased energy, and improved size and shape. Small changes in fascia health can create big changes in how you feel. It's not uncommon, for example, for there to be improvements in mobility and pain levels within relatively few sessions.

Lipedema is a whole-body condition. Addressing fascia, movement, breathing, nutrition, mindset, and inflammation together may support better outcomes than focusing only on weight loss. You are more than a number on the scale, and your victories are more than the tag in your clothes. With a mindshift to overall health and wellness, calming the nervous system, fully breathing to bring oxygen and healing to a body that's been frozen, we can begin to impact this condition, even when people tell us it's guaranteed to be progressive.

You don't have to navigate lipedema and its comorbidities alone. We take a whole-body approach to help you feel your best—inside and out. If you want to see how Block Therapy impacted me and why I now help others, you can watch my story here.
